Yoncalla Cemetery, Yoncalla, Oregon

Yoncalla Cemetery is also known as Applegate Pioneer Cemetery. This stone marks the grave of Charles Applegate and hid wife Melinda. You'll find an account of the Applegate family here and an article about the cemetery's caretaker at NPR.

Here's an interesting article on Dr. Lydia Emery from the Eugene Register-Guard

Applegate Cemetery is where I want my husband and I to be buried. My husband's ancestors are Oregon pioneers who settled in towns near this cemetery. Also I am related to Shannon Applegate, somewhat. The second wife of Captain Oliver Applegate, May Carpenter, was the sister of my great-grandmother, Clara Carpenter. So Oliver Applegate was my great-Uncle, by marriage.

Thanks for this wonderful post. Let me know the next time you come to Oregon!

Unfortunately, I haven't been there yet, though it seems like paradise. For the west coast, I rely on a couple special correspondents.
